6 DIY Fails Where Common Sense Was Obviously Lacking!

The whole point of this blog is to help you guys with your DIY questions and to explain it all in the most entertaining and easiest way to understand. Unfortunately there are those people who don’t choose take advice, think they don’t need any help when it comes to doing DIY or – and there’s no easy way to put this – are just plain stupid. Take, for example, this cutting tool fail that we posted a while back. Thankfully the Internet is awash with videos like this, although it really does make you despair for the future of our species! On the positive side though it gives us perfect fodder for a blog post on DIY fails, and a bit of a laugh too!

Roof Repair Fail

There are two main things that you should do when you clamber up on a roof to assess damage or carry out any repairs;

  1. Use a decent ladder that’s big enough to have at least some length over when it reaches the roof.
  2. Don’t do it on your own. Have somewhere there to support the ladder when you’re climbing up and down it.
This guy does neither of those things. In fact, he uses a step ladder! The height of the roof may not look like much, but one bad fall can do a lot of damage regardless of the height you fall from.

More DIY fails below the fold!

Changing Lightbulb Fail

Changing a lightbulb is one of the easiest jobs you can do in the house, but it’s also a job that can cause an accident if you’re not careful. While the job itself doesn't hold much danger (unscrew the old bulb, screw in the new bulb), the support you choose to stand on needs to be something sturdy; such as a step ladder. This guy didn't bother finding something stable, and ended up getting hurt for his lack of foresight.

Hair and Powertool Safety

Pro tip: If you've got long hair, don’t bend down over a power tool that can suddenly grab it and hold on for a ride or even think it's cool to eat sweetcorn using one. (it's about as cool as eating Tide pods guys and girls) As this girl found out, you might end up a surprise haircut, or worse; no scalp at all!

Cutting Down a Tree Fail

Timbeeeerrrrrrr!!! Seriously though, when it comes to cutting down trees it’s best to leave it up to the professionals. It might seem easy enough to grab a chainsaw and get to work, but cutting down trees is a very precise and complicated process that can be extremely dangerous for the amateur. At least in this case nobody was hurt.

Furniture Fail

When you’re fitting pretty hefty furniture it’s not a bad idea to get some help. But, go ahead, do it yourself if you want; but first have a look at this video where a guy gets flattened by a large piece of furniture he’s trying to put up himself. Unfortunately he just doesn't have the strength to hold, which leads to the inevitable attempt at turning him into a pancake. Thankfully he seems ok, but he probably won’t be doing that again!

…and all the rest!

No video post is complete with a compilation video, so enjoy these clips of even more DIY fails!
